Settings

  • Audio Quality (Bitrate): 320k studio, 192k high, 128k standard, 64k speech.
  • Sample Rate: Auto (keep original), 44100 Hz CD quality, 48000 Hz professional.
  • Channels: Auto (keep original), Mono, Stereo, Surround 5.1.

Examples

iPhone voice memos into MP3: Add the M4A files, Target MP3, 192k, Auto sample, Auto channels, run.

FLAC archive into phone-friendly MP3: Add the FLACs, Target MP3, 320k, run. High quality on the go.

Compress podcasts as OPUS: Add the podcasts, Target OPUS, 64k, Mono, run. Tiny files.

Old WMA music into FLAC: Add the WMAs, Target FLAC, Auto, run.

Watch out

  • Picking a bitrate higher than the original does not improve quality.
  • Going lossless to lossy (FLAC to MP3) loses quality, that is expected.
  • Going lossy to lossless (MP3 to FLAC) does not restore what was lost, just changes the container.
  • Some players cannot open professional formats like AC3 or AIFF.
  • AMR is very low-quality, useful only for archiving phone recordings.
