PDF Page Numbers
Stamps page numbers onto many PDFs at once. You set the format, size, colour, position and starting number. You can also skip the cover page.
What it does
Use this to add page numbers to monthly reports, decks you are about to print, or book PDFs - without doing it one file at a time. The same format and style applies to all of them.
How to use
- Drag PDFs into the list.
- Type a template into Numbering Format (default
Page {n} of {total}). - Set Position, Font Size, Colour and Starting Number.
- If the first page is a cover, check Skip First Page.
- Click Run.
You get one numbered PDF per input.
Number format
| What you type | What appears (page 2 of a 3-page PDF) |
|---|---|
Page {n} of {total} | Page 2 of 3 |
{n} | 2 |
{n} / {total} | 2 / 3 |
Page {n} | Page 2 |
{n} is the current page, {total} is the total page count.
Position options
Six positions: bottom or top, left / centre / right. Default is Bottom Center. Academic reports usually go with Bottom Center, books prefer Bottom Right or Bottom Left.
Other settings
- Font Size: Between 6 and 144 pt. Default 10 pt works for standard documents.
- Colour: Pick from the colour dialog. Default is black.
- Starting Number: What number should the first numbered page be? Default 1. If this PDF continues a previous file, set it to 45 for example.
- Skip First Page: Leaves the cover blank. Counting still starts from 1 - so the second page is stamped as "1".
Examples
Standard report numbers: Add the reports, run with defaults. Each page gets Page 1 of N at the bottom centre.
Book numbering without cover: Add the book PDF, format {n}, position Bottom Center, Skip First Page checked. The cover stays unnumbered, body starts at 1.
Continuing a previous file: For chapter 2, type 45 into Starting Number. Numbering starts at 45.
Slide deck numbers: Add the deck, format {n}, position Bottom Right, size 14. Big numbers in the corner of each slide.
Watch out
- The format only supports
{n}and{total}. Tokens like Roman numerals or chapter names are not available. - You cannot change the font family, a standard embedded font is used.
- Existing page numbers are stamped over, not removed.
- Encrypted PDFs are not handled. Unlock them with PDF Encrypt first.
- In batch mode, the same settings apply to every file.
